Dear Readers,
Welcome to our March issue
of the Isla Earth Radio Series e-Digest. This
month we highlight some interesting
technologies and ideas that improve energy
efficiency. Sound boring? Not at all! These
projects save money and resources. Nothing
dull about that!
| Green Buildings Everywhere |
 |
|
Green buildings are cropping up everywhere.
That's because environmentally sustainable,
or "green" construction is becoming more
affordable, and, dare we say it, sensible.
Making it hard to resist the allure of green.

| Green, Good Old Days |
 |
|
Here's something to ponder: Cities built
predominantly before 1945, score better in
sustainability rankings! It seems that cities
like Portland, San Francisco, Chicago and New
York have something to teach us. Want to know
how your city ranks?
|
| Green Gas Station |
 |
|
Called Helio House, it's the nation's first
"green" gas station. That's right, a gas
station. It's the
station's design, not its gas that has been
certified eco-friendly. While critics aren't
so sure about this, supporters argue that gas
stations aren't disappearing anytime soon.

Mmmm. Pizza... But wait, pizza saving the planet?
Pizza Fusion,
whose motto is "Saving the Earth, One Pizza
at a Time," is building their 60 new
pizzerias following an unusual recipe of

| What Is Green, Gold And Read All Over? |
 |
|
Like many cities with aging public buildings,
Santa Monica knew its library badly needed
new digs. Before breaking ground, the city
committed to following the "LEED" guidelines
and stands to cut energy usage and reduce
carbon emissions. Reason enough to go green
in my book!

to monitor their environment and take action
for positive environmental change. They
write, "we believe that through encouraging
and empowering those who we work with to take
action themselves, we can create and sustain
a healthy environment."
The Toronto
