  • Water Footprint
    Glass of water

You won't believe what beverage takes more water to produce. Okay, go ahead and take a guess, beer or milk? It's simply amazing. Coffee? Tea? Yeah, not just a cup of hot water! Find out how much water you really consume.

    Water Crisis Caught On Film
    Film

Many areas of the country are, or will be, facing a water shortage. "The Intelligent Use of Water" film competition by Rainbird uses creative film productions to bring awareness for water conservation.

    Treated Sewage As Drinking Water?
    Glass of Water

There is water, just not always where you need it or in the form you can immediately use. During droughts and shortages speeding up the water treatment process could be the answer.

    Bottled vs. Tap
    Bottled water

American's have an ongoing love affair with bottled water. After all, bottled water is better for you. Right? What we discovered might create a watershed moment for you.

    Smart Sprinklers
    Lawn Sprinkler

If only sprinklers could talk! Maybe you'd know if you were wasting water. Well, weather-based irrigation controllers are just around the corner. Take a look at the future.

    Book Review
Book cover "When Rivers Run Dry"

When the Rivers Run Dry: Water--The Defining Crisis of the Twenty-first Century

Veteran science writer Pearce makes a strong -- and scary -- case that a worldwide water shortage is the most fearful looming environmental crisis. With a drumbeat of facts both horrific (thousands of wells in India and Bangladesh are poisoned by fluoride and arsenic) and fascinating (it takes 20 tons of water to make one pound of coffee), the former New Scientist news editor documents a "kind of cataclysm" already affecting many of the world's great rivers...In India, villagers lacking access to clean water for irrigation and drinking are sinking tube wells hundreds of feet down, plundering underground supplies far faster than rainfall can replace them-the same fate facing the Ogallala aquifer of the American Midwest. The news, recounted with a scientist's relentless accumulation of observable fact, is grim. - Publishers Weekly on Amazon.com
